Can anyone tell me if there is a way to hide the approval sections to specific users?

Add a condition to hide the section based on the user name. It might be simplest if you set a form field to the current user's name each time the form is opened - then you can use the condition builder UI to select the field and enter the user name you wish to apply the formatting for.

Sorry I missed that you responded to this.  I have a data connection to getuser profile by name and quary the data when form is opend but when I open the form in sp 2013 it erors saying having trouble quarying the data?  any clue?

Hilary one question for you.  When I try to query for data using the get user profile by name i am getting the below error when opening the form on sp 2013
