Cant populate field with name, only get the ID

I have three SharePoint lists, Vehicle, Contacts and one called Order. Order collects data for two fields from Vehicle and Contacts. Company name from Contacts and Registration number from Vehicle. So far so good. Everything looks ok.

Now I've created a InfoPath form that has a data connection to all three SharePoint lists. I have one filed called Order ID that is connected to the Order list. As I fill out a InfoPath field called Order ID all other fields populates with information from the order list as it should except two fields. Registration number and Company name. These two fields get the ID column from the Company name and the Vehicle list instead of the actual name.

My question, is there a way to get the fields that shows the ID to present another column in the same list instead? It feels like I've tried every combination available but no success.

Do you want to store the ID and display the value? If so, you could use a calculated value to get the display column from the appropriate list based on the ID. You can attach your form in a reply under the options tab if you'd like me to give you a hand. :)

Thank you so much, I really appreciate it! No need to store the ID. After completeing the form it will be sent back to the SharePoint forms library where the data will be processed as is.

    Short explanation....

ID-nummer is the field where to put the order number. That field has a rule and retreives infromation from the Order SharePoint list and populates all the fields except Adress, Telefon, Kontaktperson and Noteringar.

The Field Företag has a rule that collects information from another SharePoint list, Contacts. It fills out the fields Adress, Kontaktperson and Telefon.

The fields Företag and Registreringsnummer gets the ID column from the SharePoint list, it's the right corresponding ID to the post but it shows the ID instead of the company name and registration number.

Hi..., Before giving the answer, let me tell you my understanding on this. You have 3 list Vehicle, Contacts and one called Order. You are pulling Order ID from the Order List and expecting to open corresponding Company name from contacts and registration number from Vehicle..... Now as per my understanding the two columns Company name from contacts and registration number from Vehicle are the Look Up columns. If these are the Look Up Column than this is an expected behaviour because by default data type of the Look Up field in InfoPath has Integer content type. I have written a blog on this: http://blogs.msdn.com/b/microsoft_infopath_bloggers/archive/2015/03/05/getting-error-while-submitting-the-infopath-from-with-lookup-fields.aspx ...... In this blog I have mentioned the similar issue and a work around. Please let me know if you have any question.

Re: Cant populate field with name, only get the ID

Almost, I have the company name defined in the Order list, not the address though, so that's where it is fetched from. A rule on the Company name field then looks up the name in the Contact list and populates the Adress and the Telephone field in the form. The Registration number is in the Order list as well but the SharePoint list itself get the Registration number from the vehicle list. Actually it's the same with the company name, the Order list gets the company name from the Company SharePoint list. Both these, Company name and Registration number, fields are presented with the ID of the originating SharePoint list, Contacts and Vehicle.

The Columns Company name from contacts and registration number from the Vehicle list is the prefered lookup columns that I would like to show in my form and not the ID for the same line in the list.

I hope it makes any sense. I might be way off but a noob is a noob :)
