Read a parameter from a URL

I want a user to be able to submit one form then open a second form from a link on the first form and have the second form prepopulated with information from the first form.

CODE IS NOT AN OPTION!  We are using cloud hosted SharePoint and it is simply not possible to publish forms with code.  NO CODE!

Web parts are not an option.  Don't ask me why, I am just a small cog in a big machine but I am not allowed to use web parts.

Forms are browser enabled.  Users do not have InfoPath.  They are working on a variety of platforms, some of which are not capable of running InfoPath.

    What I can do :-)

I have two forms, "New Starter", and, "IT request".  When we start a new member of staff their manager completes a new starter form with information required by HR and payroll.  They may then need to request IT accounts and equipment.  But IT request form is stand alone because it is also used by existing members of staff with new IT requirements.

On submit the New Starter form generates an employee number based on the ID field of the form read from the library.

If the IT request form has an employee number it successfully reads information from the appropriate record in the New Starter Library and populates various fields.

The New starter form that has a Hyperlink that is populated from a field and the field is populated as concatenation of the url to the IT form and the employee number.  The link works and successfully opens the IT form.  The employee number is displayed in the address bar of the new form as ITformaddress?EmployeeNumber=123456 where ITformaddress is the full address to the IT form.  So it works and it contains the employee number I want.

    What I can't do :-(

I can't find a way to read the url within the form.  If I could I could set EmployeeNumber on the IT form to substring-after(url,"?EmployeeNumber=") and be a very happy bunny :-D

    Can anyone help?

    Hello Guy,

Thanks for your inquiry! For what you are outlining for your forms function, there is not a way to do this out of box.

You would need either code or qRules to GetInputParameter from your URL.

You should be able to use forms with code in an O365 environment.

    Hope that helps!

Hi Bre, Thank you for the reply. But no, it is simply impossible to publish browser enabled forms with code to a hosted Office 365. Very frustrated but just not an alternative. Guy

Hi, Guy - we do it all the time. The code has to be permitted in the sandbox, since we can't admin deploy templates on Office 365. The person publishing the form has to be a site collection admin. But we regularly use code (generally qRules, but that is a compiled code DLL) in InfoPath browser forms on Office 365.

Hi Hillary,  but we don't have any access to the sandbox so it isn't possible.  We don't have any access to site collection admin, that is held by the third party who host the SharePoint site.  So nope, we can't publish code.  N O no!!  lol SOrry but I keep saying I can't use code solutions and people keep offering code solutions.  It just isn't possible.  I am sure we are not unique, we have just bought a SharePoint package, one offered by many providers.  And they don't allow that kind of access.

I see - your posts make it sound as if it isn't possible simply because it is Office 365. That may be why you keep getting pushback on this. But what you mean is just that you don't have access to the sandbox. Perhaps in the future, you may want to include that information in your posts.
