InfoPath forms will not open in a browser when opened from a workflow link.

InfoPath forms will not open in a browser when opened from a workflow link.

We are using SharePoint 2010, InfoPath 2010, SharePoint Designer 2010 Workflows and the Office 365 version of Office 2013.

This is driving me nuts... browser based forms will not open in a browser if the client is installed on the workstation.  If the client is not installed on the user’s desktop they open just fine in the browser.  This only happens when opening up a link to the form from a workflow. We have workflows that notify specific users by email when a form has been submitted to a library.  When a user fills out a form and submits the form to the library an email is kicked off by a workflow.  In the email is a link to the "Current Item".  If the users clicks on this link AND they have InfoPath installed they are prompted to open the document in the client or save it.  If they do not have the client installed the form opens in a browser. BUT if you go to the library and click on the submitted form it also opens in a browser, so it’s not the form or the library but something that happens when the form is called from the link in the workflow.

The easiest thing to do would be to uninstall the client from everyone’s computer, they don’t need it anyway, but… all our users upgraded to Office 365 and downloaded the latest version of "Office 2013".   The Office 365 version of Office is a "package", it's all or nothing with no way to uninstall individual applications.

    Any ideas???

I'm going to guess it is the URL itself. I've found that I have to include some browser URL params in the link. Is the form published directly to the library? Or is it admin approved or a content type?

Take a look at the URL in the address bar when you open a new form or reopen an existing form in the library, then create a similar URL to send in the email from the workflow.
