InfoPath Dev

I am new to 2013 and Online environment. However, I have an InfoPath 2013 form based on a SharePoint List and I'm trying to setup the Data Connection to get the UPS from SP (which I have done many times in 2010 on premise environment). I'm not sure if I haven't turned something on in SP Online, or if I have the wrong location for my web app direction, or what. Can someone please help? Here is what I am putting in to my SOAP call:

http://oursharepointsitecollection/UserProfileService.asmx?WSDL perhaps the url is not correct? (I'm a little unsure as to what the first part of the url should be)

When I hit "Next" I get the following error:

Please help. Thank you.

For some reason cannot edit my post and image is not showing. Here is the error message:

InfoPath cannot find or cannot access the specified Web service description.

The file is not a valid XML file.

The file is not a valid XML document.

DTD is prohibited.

Line 2, Position 9.

Are you setting the query parameter in the web service data connection prior to executing it? I'd try that first. Walk through the data connection again and deselect the check box in the last dialog for automatically returning data on load. In the form load rules, set the query field to the userName() function and then run the query.

 HI Hilary

I didn't even get that far. It errored while trying to connect to the SOAP service.

I'm sorry, I didn't read closely enough. Your URL doesn't look right - it is missing /_vti_bin

Try your URL in the browser first to make sure it returns the page that shows the operations for the service.

http://oursharepointsitecollection/_vti_bin/UserProfileService.asmx?WSDL

My bad I typed the URL incorrectly HERE but did type it correctly in my SOAP call

http://oursharepointsitecollection/_vti_bin/UserProfileService.asmx?WSDL  so that's not the issue.

And the URL works in the browser? Returns a page with the web service operations?

Hilary, I'm having this same issue. Was this ever resolved? It worked fine with SP 2010, but now I'm moving to SP 2013. Is the URL the same? _vti_bin/lists.asmx?WSDL

Sheila, I know this is from a long time ago, but did you ever figure out what the issue was for this?

The URL should still the same. Check the server's ULS logs, that may give you some insight into the issue.

I don't have access to the servers unfortunately. Does something need to be enabled at the server level in order for it to work? I would have to work with the SP Farm support personnel.

I don't see anything in your post about the error you are getting? Is it in InfoPath designer, when you try to connect to the lists service (or the user profile service, which this post was about)? Or in the browser when you try the form? If in the browser, copy the correlation ID from the error details and send it to your SP Farm support personnel with info on what time the error occurred so they can find it in the logs.

This is in InfoPath Designer when making a SOAP Web services Data connection. I can't get past the first screen in the Data Connection Wizard where you put "URL/_vti_bin/lists.asmx?WSDL. When I do that, I get a "We can't connect to "URL/_vti_bin/lists.asmx?WSDL" . Please make sure you are using the correct web address.

Thanks for the additional info. If you paste the same URL - just through asmx, no need to include ?WSDL - into the address bar of your browser, what happens?

I get a list of Lists Web Service options. So that's good! When I try to connect in InfoPath I get the error I described above and then the attached error. "The File is not a valid XML File. The File cannot be accessed"
