    catastrophic failure during publish

Hi, So my first post. I have a real issue with trying to get my form to publish to my site. So I'll give a background of what I've tried and how my environment is setup. Just to be clear I am using SharePoint 2013 and InfoPath 2013. So I am working off of to VM's. One has SharePoint server 2013 installed runnin the WS2008R2 OS, the other VM is running Windows 7 OS and has my office client installed. I did not realize that you could not have office client running on the same machine that has SharePoint Server installed, so that's why I am using two VM's. Anyways, so I went into central admin and created a new web app and site collection. Next I created a custom list in Visual Studio and deployed the solution to my farm. Now that I had the list I opened my office client VM and connected to my list via designer 2013. I created my InfoPath form and tried to publish and got an error that said: "The publish operation could not be completed....Catastrophic failure". No additional details. I went back to my site settings and made sure that form publishing was enabled, I made sure Sharepoint standard, publishing, and enterprise features were enabled. I made sure that list settings had InfoPath enabled, I went into my general settings in Central Admin and made sure all the InfoPath stuff was activated....I'm just totally out of ideas and I really need to get this to work....any help would be awesome...Thanks

    Re: catastrophic failure during publish

    Hello Edward,

You many have errors in your form. If you g to file > Designer checker do you receive any errors? It sounds like you may be trying to publish a library form to a list, in which case you cannot do. When designing InfoPath forms list forms and library forms have 2 different XSN types. Here are your options:

    1. Create a new Form Library

Since it sounds like your form has been developed to a certain point, you can simply publish to the site and create the Form library.  To do so, go to File > Publish > To a SharePoint Server and walk through the publishing wizard. You'll need your SharePoint site URL with just the site and site collection if you're not at the top level.

    2. Customize a List form

In this option you can create your SharePoint list, and then from the list tab in the ribbon select "Customize in InfoPath". This option is limited to the columns in SharePoint, and does not support repeating data structures.

If you are not sure, attach your form here and I'll take a look.

    Hope that helps!
    Bre

     Hi Bre,

So it really is not a form issue, it's more that you can't run office client and SharePoint server on the same VM. So I'm having to use 2 VM's. I can connect to the list just fine because designer is part of SharePoint Server however InfoPath lives in Office so there's the problem. I was able to resolve the issue with a work around however but still don't have a solution that is ideal. The problem was this:

    - I created the list in Visual Studio and deployed the list with the content types to my farm. I guess the issue was InfoPath does not support lists created in Visual Studio?

    - My work around was to recreate the list from the server side and then customize the form using InfoPath. This worked but it's a bad way to do things because then whenever you have to do Test or Prod deploys you have two separate environments you are working in.

    - My ideal state would be to have my list created in VS and be able to use InfoPath as well (cake and eat it too!).  My farm is all set in terms of activating all the features needed to host an InfoPath form, but there seems to be some restriction to associating an InfoPath form to a list that was created in VS? Or maybe I'm missing something?

Thank you for you suggestion and hopefully this can get resolved soon....
