    views and user roles

ok, hate to bother you all again but here is my pickle now.

i have set up a few user roles, barring the issue of multiple domains which to one i do not have access.

I have 4 user roles, and i have 4 views that have been created.

user roles = manager, analyst, sup, and admin
views = manager, analyst, sup, and admin

each view will limit some information the user can see until a different user updates the information with their input.

the problem i am having is that the actions to switch views are not working.

here is an example of the only action i have in place right now, since i am trying to test it.

    under form options
    open and save tab
    add rule
set condition (users current role / is equal to / "admin") action(switch views / admin)

the problem that i am having is that it wont automatically switch to the non default view of admin, it goes to the default view, which is not the admin view.

can anyone suggest anything to make this work as intended?

I saw the passwords article on the site and plan to use that for the time being, however if the view switches were seemless it would work better for my needs.

    Thanks

Try flipping the matching constraint to say not equal to. Roles work in a odd way and this may work. Also this thread may help:

    I figured it out.

the user roles dont take place until the form is saved, so i created my default initiator role, and then when each person reopens the file they are seeing the correct view.

I know this is an old post.  But thank you jodyleblanc for posting your solution...it helped me troubleshoot the same type of issue.  Once I set one of the user roles as an initiator and default for form open behavior, things started working.  I still had to remove user role and add it back in, then reset some rules on form open behavior to toggle everything into action but eventually it worked.

One of the problems I noted was that one of my user roles which I had originally set as the default user role (but not the initiator --and btw I had originally not set an iniator at all), was the user role being used to open the form, even after I changed the default to another user role.  Once I removed that user role entirely, the new default was forced to be used, and that's when my views started changing properly based on user roles.

So complicated.  I've spend 2 days on this!
