Submit via Web Service to People Picker field

     Hi All,

I'm using an InfoPath email type form, in order to submit to a list in SharePoint I have created a web service with the Lists.asmx. I use the list GUID and an XML "batch" file to do the submit, but it can only submit plain text.

Using this technique how can I submit data to a people picker field on my SharePoint list? I've tried submitting loads of different values but it doesn't seem to accept anything. Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Regards,

    Steven

    Hello Steven,

In this instance you will need what we refer to as a helper field. This field will have a default value, using the pc:AccountId field from the people picker. For submitting to a list, the value that is submitted needs to force a lookup to the User Profile service when submitted. Here's the formula:

     concat("-1;#", pc:AccountId)

    Hope that helps!

    Hi Bre,

Thank you kindly for your response, I'm still confused about the actual submit part.

So I've created a field with a default value as described, which is formatted as text and updates when the people picker is modified. However, when I submit it as part of the web service submit it never makes it to the list.

Can you detail the steps I need to preform in order to do this successfully as it is beginning to mess with my mind.

    Regards,

    Steve

     Hi Bre,

Sorry about that. I'd changed a few fields and not updated my form, so I was trying to submit incorrect data to other fields. I got this working exactly like you described, though I didn't use the helper field just did the concatenation in the submit rule and works perfectly.

    Regards,

    Steven
