    Browser forms work much differently than rich client forms.  Many things do not work in browser forms, so it's something you have to be aware of and work around.

     For those that are still trying to figure this out - I found a way (in modifying the core.js engine of sharepoint)

    replace this line:
    objVisualizationDiv.style.display = "inline";

    with this:
    objVisualizationDiv.style.display = (strHelperName == "ErrorTip") ? "none" : "inline";

    you'll keep the red asterisk, but hide the annoying pop up.

    the file is located here:
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\web Server Extensions\12\TEMPLATE\LAYOUTS\INC

    To remove the div you'll need to make chages to the folowing style sheet. ifsmain.css on the front end web server The Best way to accomplish this would be to develop a feature that can over ride  the CSS.

    The file is located-------Creating a feature to overide would be ideal!!!!!!!!

    _/LAYOUTS/INC/ifmain.css ***************** This CSS file is on the server*****************   In the 12 hive.

    Now why didn't I think of that?!  Fantastic idea, Warrtalon.  Worked like a charm.  My users were complaining about the popup and screen tip appearing together, so this solution makes my form much neater.  Thanks for sharing!

    So I have a form template based on a webservice that feeds off a dataset.

    So any field in the dataset that cannot be null requires filling in.

    Because the datasource is outside of Infopath, the only way I can turn off the validation for each Field would be to allow nulls in the database which is a risky approach.

    Are we serious when we say that the only way to turn off the validation tooltips would be to get rid of validation as designed in Infopath and bodge something together? Or left with the other alternative that means edited files in the Sharepoint hive which affect the entire server?

    I'd love for someone to say otherwise.

    Clayton can you post the rules or whatever you use for your "back-end validation method" to disable your submit button until all required fields are completed...  I am having problems in Web Forms with the "cannot be blank" popups getting in the way of people being able to select option buttons.  Also the posting back to the server every time a value changes is annoying.  I dont really want to mess with changing the .css style sheet.  I tried to put the validation on a button but it is not available.

    what do you mean by, "it is not available"?  How can rules not be available on your button?  I've never seen that.  You just add conditional formatting that says "If Field1 is blank or Field2 is blank or Field3 is blank or Field4 is blank..., then disable this control" and so on and so on.

    Re: How to remove popup/tooltip like "Cannot be blank"

    This question may be a year old, but I thought I'd share my fix for these. I simply had to change those thick ugly red borders.

    Use the XMLFormView Web part when displaying your new web based Infopath form.  There are some great tutorials on this. I think this one's very good: http://www.nickgrattan.net/Publications.aspx.

    Once you have that all set up, add a content editor web part to the bottom of the same page and enter <style></style> tags into the Source editor for that web part.

    Here's what I have fof the border and a few other styles I like to overwrite.

    <style type="text/css">
    input {
    border: 1px #CCC solid;
    }
    .ms-WPBody td {
        font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif !important;
        font-size: 12px !important;
    }

    .ms-WPBody TABLE, .ms-TPBody TABLE {
        font-size: 10px;
    }

    .ai_ {
        font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif !important;
        font-size: 12px !important;

    }
    .i_ {
        border: medium none;
        border-collapse: collapse;
        table-layout: fixed;
        word-wrap: break-word;
    }

    .d_ {
        font-family: arial;
        font-size: 12px;
    }
    .dv_ {
         border:0;

    }
    .dt_ {
         border:0;
    }

    </style>

    The .dv_ and .dt_ classes take care of the borders.  Then, in InfoPath I just add an asterisk to the outside of the field label and make it bold and red.

    No more border. I hope this can help somebody out there.
