Updating a list item which has just been pulled from a SharePoint list

A while back, I posted a thread (Re: I need a form that automatically fills some fields and allows the user to input others...) and was able to pull data from a SharePoint list based on the logged on user name.  Now, I need for users to be able to enter and/or update data in that form and update the SharePoint list item.  I was able to create a Submit button that writes back to the SP list, but it creates a new item rather than updating the existing entry.

    Any ideas?

    Hi Andy,

May I know what method you are using in order to submit new list items from the form to your list so I can try to provide a more accurate solution based on your current set up?

    Thanks,

I'm just using a submit button whose properties are set to submit to the SharePoint list.  However, the initial list data is entered before the form user ever brings up the form.  The form users are supposed to verify that the information is accurate, add a few fields (cell phone, preferred name, etc.), then save the data back to the list.

This seems like very basic functionality, no answers?

Hi Andy - apologies for the delaying in responding. Since you are using a SharePoint list form, it is indeed easy to update existing list items. In your Submit button, instead of the Submit action, set it to use the Update Form action (see screenshot).

    Hope it helps!
