Getting User Profile Data to autopopulate

I have scoured the web, met with my "support" team, and still have no solution to what I believe is an absolute basic function. I have to recreate a database from a previous version on another sw solution. It is a basic data entry database. However, with 100s of entries, Execs do not want their teams having to enter their Name, Phone Number, Email, Manager, and Department every time they create an entry. I have found the way to get it through the SOAP server using GetUserProfileByName. It works fine in InfoPath, but then fails on the server. I read on having to create a UDCX file. However, that requires an Admin that will not make the change for it to work. I have looked at workflows doing a simple a Set command and displaying the Current User:Created By to do it. It still comes up blank. We run Sharepoint 2013 on the server. I have been told that there are bad compatibility issues using Infopath 2013. I was told to back down to 2010. Does anyone have any ideas on how to get just one of these to autopopulate in the form when it is opened? Is there a weird chance that some setting in Site Features is not setup correctly?

    Hi BigRedNole,

May I know what error you are receiving when querying data  using a browser form? I am positive that the GetUserProfileByName web service works properly on a SharePoint 2010 environment but will have some issues on 2013, so I am recommending this webinar: InfoPath: Migration Issue from SharePoint 2010 to 2013.

    Hope this helps.

I am using Infopath 2010 to develop forms. Our servers are running Sharepoint 2013. After discussing with my IT team, they insisted any issue I encounted was due to Infopath 2013 and to revert all Office programs to 2010. I did that and still receive the same results. Basically, I create a data connection to the SOAP server. I have verified the GetUserProfileByName exists going to the site\_vti_bin\UserProfileServices.asmx. When I run Preview in InfoPath, I get the PreferredName to populate correctly. I can do this with other fields but use one just for simplicity to try to get it all to work. After I publish to the site, I create a new document, I get a 5566 error. Research online and other places have indicated to try creating a UCDX file. Others have stated to try going into Central Administration to make a few updates there. I am so new to this, I do not even know how to get to Central Administration or even know if I can get to it.

    Hi,

The Central Administration should be on your server:

The 5566 error you are receiving is an account permission issue and would need to have the UDCXs configured. Please check the link I have provided in my previous post for more information on the 5566 error you are receiving.

Thank you. After more digging, that is what I found. Our IT team is not forthcoming or willing to make a change. I have been able to go through a back way using a Workflow. It gets the job done which is all we need. If I can ever find a willing Admin, I may be able to have them fix the permission side on the server.

Re: Getting User Profile Data to autopopulate

After literally many weeks, I finally figured it out. The instructions above solve the problem. My issue is with the reason I hated programming. In the end, it was a typo in the server address. In the instruction file I had, I must have accidentally hit a character while viewing the file and ultimately saving it with the wrong server address. Thankfully on the hard copy it had the actual server address. Both addresses worked to get to the command. However, only one server address was setup to authenticate properly. Stoopid me!!!!
