Combine Repeating and Non Repeating Sections

Hello, I have been looking for an answer to this for a while, but have not found any luck. I have an Infopath form that will create multiple SharePoint list items when submitted. I have one section for information like "Event", "Date", "Time" and another section where attendees can be added. I want the first section to be non repeating, and the second to be repeating so that any number of people can be added. However, I do not want the form creator to have to type in information from the first section over and over again so that each list item has the data. Is there some way that I can combine this repeating and non repeating section so that the information from the non repeating section gets copied into each value of the repeating section. Thanks

    Hi John,

To my understanding you would like to auto-populate repeating field values based on a value from a non repeating section so that the current user won't have to type in the information repeatedly. If that is correct, then I would suggest setting the repeating field's default value to the value of the desired non-repeating field should do the trick. Would this approach work for you?

That is what I want to do, however I have not been able to achieve that. The form is for a SharePoint library, and whenever I try to add a new field to the form, it makes it a repeating field. The option to disable this is blanked out, so it seems like my only choice to only have repeating fields on this form. I need a way to have both the non-repeating and repeating sections on the same infopath form. Is there a way to do this? Thanks

I'm a bit lost here. Are you working on two forms (a SharePoint library form and a Custom SharePoint list form)? If you could upload a copy or a sample of your form, I'll be able to check it out and see what isn't working for you. Regards,

You can ignore my other question on the other thread that you helped me with. This is a separate question. I have a custom SharePoint list form that I made on infopath for my custom SharePoint list. The first image shows what I have at the moment. Every time a user wants to submit a new item, they hit insert item and have to find the training event (training event is a lookup field) they want again. In the second image, I show what happens when you try to add another field. I tried adding this field with the hopes of setting the default value equal to this, but it has to be a repeating section. I can't make it non-repeating. If these pictures still aren't clear let me know an I'll try to further explain my problem.

I uploaded the pictures as separate posts. I didn't know how to upload multiple ones.

Thank you for the additional information. I haven't encountered this one but I'm positive we can find a workaround. Could you send over a copy or a sample of your form so I could run some tests?

What is the best way for me to share this? The form is synced with a SharePoint site, so I don't think you can open it without a connection. I can't reproduce the problem without connecting the data to SharePoint, so I'm not sure the best way to send you the form. After playing around with it some more, I noticed that when I add a query field to the form, it is non-repeating, but when I add a data field it is repeating. I need to be able to add non-repeating data-fields because I am reading data from a list and I can only see that data via a data field.

Uploading the form should be fine. I just need to see how your form is set up so I would have a better idea of what you are trying to achieve.
