    Code Signing Certificate

    Hello,

I've created an InfoPath form with an Access DB connection. Both are stored on a shared network drive, but other users cannot submit the forms. I have deduced that this is due to the form needing "full trust", which wouldn't be a problem, except that my company doesn't have CA so I'm on my own. I believe that my only option to gain this functionality for the users on the network would be to get a third party Code Signing Certificate and install it, is this correct?

     Thank you!

Hi - while some of this blog post is about DBXL, there is info on how to use Office tools to create your own cert and sign the form and how the users can trust the cert. I am surprised that this scenario requires a full trust form tho.

Thanks Hilary - I am surprised that this requires a full trust form as well. But it works great for me and absolutely no one else. I've tried everything else I can think of, including the MS Office VBA certificate (as mentioned above), and nothing will allow another user to open the form from the network drive and submit it to the database.

So - let's start with other user's can't open the form. You've published it to a network share - what error do they get when they try to open it? Or is it that they can open, but submit fails? If so, what error do they get when they try to submit?

They have no problem opening it, although the "Trust from this Publisher" is greyed out, so they aren't able to click on it. But, it opens, they fill out information and then it says:

    "InfoPath cannot submit the form.
An error occurred while the form was being submitted.
InfoPath cannot connect to the data source.
InfoPath has encountered an error. The operation failed."

But I have no problem with the form or submission.

Okay - so if you take a look at that blog post, there is a work around for "trust" being disabled. Is everyone using the same version of InfoPath / Access as you are? Is this 2007, 2010, 2013?

Yes, we're all on 2010 across the board. I'll take another look at that blog post.

Honestly, I don't think them being able to "trust" the cert is going to make a difference - it just keeps them from getting the pop up every time. The users all have permissions to the Access DB?

They do. I've had them go through the folder and open it directly, they can open it, add to it and save the new records without any issues. I should also note that if I create the same form on their computer, linking it to the exact same database, they can submit it without any problems.

    Re: Code Signing Certificate

Wow. That just seems nutty. It may be worth comparing the manifest file from a form where you created the form from another users computer with the manifest from this form (or, copy this form to another computer, re-do the connection, and compare). If you go to Publish > Export source files and look in the manifest, it will have your connection information. Maybe you'll be able to see a difference there?

    Re: Code Signing Certificate

I think I found the main issue; although we're able to access all the files on the shared drive, it's not mapped the same at each person's station. I have no ability to fix this as I'm not in the IT department. However, is it possible to use a web service to both submit and query the information to/from an Access DB using InfoPath?? Letting the web service act as the buffer zone to allow the DB and form to talk?
