InfoPath 2010 file layout messed up when opened in 2013

My workplace recently upgraded to InfoPath 2013.

When I open any of my InfoPath 2010 files in Design Mode in InfoPath 2013, the layout looks completely messed up.  The text that all fit neatly on a single line is now running over on to a second line.  The weird thing is that the table columns are all still the same pixel width, and the text is still the same font size.

The issue persists when I Preview the form.

I have attached screenshots from 2013 and 2010 (the 2010 was an old screenshot I thankfully had laying around).

It almost looks like the view has been zoomed in.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks,

    Joy

     Hello Joy,

In InfoPath forms, there is often a difference in the output of what the user actually views based on InfoPath version, InfoPath Client (preview) and different browsers. As a rule, we recommend optimizing the layout based on what the form looks like in the environment it will live in. This can often mean that a form looks much different in the designer, than is does in it's published location.

For your form, I would suggest making a few initial modifications to format to your desired outcome. Preview and publish to test.

Please let me know if that works.

    Thanks!

Re: InfoPath 2010 file layout messed up when opened in 2013

     Hi Bre,

The issue is that it worked perfectly fine in the InfoPath 2010 Designer, but that opening the same file in the InfoPath 2013 Designer appears to mess up all the prior formatting.  The strange thing is that all of the font sizes and column widths have remained identical, they just don't look the same.  Do you have any ideas why that might be?

    Thanks,

    Joy

     Hi Joy,

The only thing I can think of would be that the form is rendering differently in 2013. By chance was the template upgraded to 2013 as well? The 2010 browser enabled should work just fine on a 2013 SharePoint site. It looks like it may actually be something in the view.xsl from the form, we've seen various issues related to formatting, especially in tables. If you can, why don't you send me the form and I will take a look at it.

    Thanks!

    Hi Bre/Joy,

I am having this same issue after installing Office 2013.  All of my 2010 InfoPath forms are opening up very narrow even though the pixel width of the tables/columns match those of the original formatting.  Did you find any solution?

    Thank you,

    Casey

Thank you both for your responses.

I would say that this is more related to setting on your machine or the view file of the XSN.

We typically recommend publishing and testing often in the environment the form will be used in. Often forms will look much different in the designer or in preview than they do in the browser. There is often even differences from browser to browser.

I would make the formatting changes to suit the environment the form will be used in.

    Thanks!

Re: InfoPath 2010 file layout messed up when opened in 2013

I have double checked the settings on my machine vs the settings on a machine of my colleague.  We have identical settings for InfoPath, and are opening the exact same file in InfoPath 2013.  I am having the issue of everything not looking correctly, and he is not.  So I don't think that the issue is machine settings.  It also should not be affected by browser settings, since these issues are showing up in InfoPath itself, before publishing even occurs.

It is definitely a highly frustrating issue.

There shouldn't be a need to change the formatting, since it does work correctly on my colleague's machine.

    Are there other ideas?

    Thanks,

    Joy

Re: InfoPath 2010 file layout messed up when opened in 2013

So... I discovered something strange.  It kept appearing as if the form was zoomed in, but I could not get any zoom controls to work previously.

This morning, I tried to do CTRL - again, and it suddenly worked.  All it took was doing that once for everything in the form to appear correct again.

I am not sure why trying CTRL - didn't work the previous times, but this has, at least for now, resolved the issue for me.

I hope this helps anyone else who is having this issue.
