Get Field values from a Sharepoint list that is an external data source in my InfoPath form

I am using Web Services to write items to a Sharepoint list from my InfoPath 2007 form. The CAML "New" method works as expected. However, I wish to be able to Update list items, and that requires the target item's List ID. In the list, I write a unique value to a field that I also store in my form for each record written to the list.

To start with, I created a data connection to that list. If I place it on the form in a repeating table, it displays all of the list's items.

However, I need to programmatically iterate through the items until I match the unique field that each list item contains. Then, I will know the ID and be able to use it for an Update operation.

I am using VBScript, and am struggling with the syntax for looping through the external list items (nodes?). Has anyone done this? Can you please share your insights?

    Thanks for the fantastic forum!

I'm wondering if you need to loop for this - it seems like plain old XPath would help you get the ID here - just add a filter that uses the field with the unique value? I'm afraid my VBScript skills are non-existent and would not be too helpful....
