Form won't submit to SharePoint 2010 library through browser

    Hi,

I have made an infopath form which has several approval steps and with each step it updates in a SharePoint library.

The form will function from start to finish fine when I allow it to be opened in infopath.

If I force the form to only open via the browser in SharePoint, it will submit fine on initial creation, after this whenever you hit submit, it will give the standard success message, but no fields would be updated. if I hit save and and then submit it seems to update them though.

To form uses no custom code but lots of rules.

    There are 3 data connections
a Main submit connection for initial creation of form
a request ID connection to get the current document ID
a second submit connection to use the current documentID to update the current form after the initial submission, I have rules set to only use this connection if the document is an existing form. Its set to allow overwrite of existing documents.

Can anyone give any advice on why it will work fine if opened in Infopath but not the browser?

    Thanks

My guess would be that when you save then submit it is the saving that is succeeding.

I am not sure why you wouldn't just always use the same submit connection set to overwrite the existing form? I don't understand the approach you have taken. Are these rules submit rules? I'd guess that maybe none of your conditions are being met, but that you are getting a success message because the rules didn't fail, if so.

    Hi Hilary,

I used the 3 data connections as that's what my google searching advised as the only way to increment the ID for each new form.

The main submit connection has a calculation to get the max(ID) then add 1 - so any new form has a new ID

The second connection gets the ID of the current item

The third will use that current ID to make any later submissions (from an approver, executive etc) onto the same form.

Perhaps am I doing this wrong and the above is unneeded?

The rules are working fine, on the third connection if I disable allow overwrite, when I try to do the second submission of a form it will error saying a form with that ID already exists,  if I allow overwrite which I want. It says its submitted fine but no data is updated on the list. And it works completely fine if I allow forms to open in infopath.

I can't see why its not working :(

Have i setup this submission process wrong?

All I want is for new forms to have a new ID and when an existing form is updated and submitted for the updates to be applied.

Any advise on what I am meant to be doing, all my google searches suggest the method I did as correct.

    Thanks

I'd assume you'd only need one data connection to submit to the library - and it would be set to allow overwrite. And that you'd have a form field where you'd store this ID and use that form field for the name of the form in the data connection you are using to submit with. And that you'd get the ID right before you submit to prevent accidental overwrites - I guess that is why you are using 2 submit connections? So that you don't end up with people accidentally overwriting with the initial form submission?

Really - I have no idea why this is failing in the browser for you - if you want, attach your template under the options tab to a reply and I can take a quick look at the rules.
