    CAML template AddNewItems

    Hi ya'll.  I'm trying to "cookbook" the OOTB solution from the  webinar kit called 02-28 - InfoPath Dashboards - Repeating Data so that I can write repeating data to a SharePoint list.  The CAML template looks like this:

    <?xml version="1.0"?>
    <Batch OnError="Return" PreCalc="TRUE">
    <Method Cmd="New" ID="1">
    <Field CopyId="" Name="ID"/>
    <Field Name="Title" CopyTitle=""/>
    <Field Name="Date" CopyDate=""/>
    <Field Name="Description" CopyDescription=""/>
    <Field Name="Category" CopyCategory=""/>
    <Field Name="Amount" CopyAmount=""/>
    <Field Name="UniqueId0" CopyUniqueId=""/>
    <Field Name="ParentId" CopyParentId=""/>
    <Field Name="LibraryGuid" CopyLibraryGuid=""/>
    </Method>
    </Batch>

    I'm confused about the underlined statement.  Won't this attempt to write data to the list's ID column, which is not updateable?

    Thank you.

    Hi Susan,

    After checking the webinar kit for the OOTB solution form sample (CAML approach), I saw that there were two things the form performing (submit New or Update existing items). The more appropriate approach is to add a rule which sets the ID's value if the form is not updating any items, but it seems like setting this to blank does not affect submitting a new entry. Updating an existing entry on the other hand needs to have the ID declared (when CMD is set to Update) in order for the form to identify which row it is updating. Please let me know if this helps.
