Data Connections in Web Based Forms?

I cannot seem to find a definitive answer on the internet: Can external data connections be used to populate fields in a web-based InfoPath Form? I have a form that I've created that makes extensive use of SharePoint lists to populate selection choices, but when I go to publish the form, I'm given an error that says that the form contains "parameterized queries" and that this is only supported by InfoPath Filler. Is there a way to use data connections in a web-based form, or is InfoPath filler really the only option when making data connections to a SharePoint list?

Hi - I use SharePoint list data connections in InfoPath browser forms all the time. I use rules to set values to fields in my form using data from these data connections, so there is something else going wrong for you here.

Can I see a copy of your form? You can attach it under the options tab.... or, perhaps just a screenshot of the error message?

Hilary, thank you for your help. I'm going to attach the file, but the data sources are all behind password-protected SharePoint site, so none of the fields will actually work. I'll also attach a screenshot showing what should happen. The error that I'm getting is once that it is published to a forms library, a message says that it will need InfoPath Filler to complete the form because the "data connections contain parameterized queries." I thought this was because some of the fields depend upon other fields, but even when I adjusted to form to only retrieve one piece of data from a SharePoint list, the warnings were still the same. When I removed all Data Connections, I no longer received the error messages. The warning at publication says, "The form template has been published to the server but it can only be opened in the InfoPath Filler because it contains features that are not compatible with Web browsers. To fix this problem, close this dialog and review the errors in the Design Checker task pane." The Design Checker says that the issue is with all 3 data connections: Team Contacts, DocumentDetails, and ProductDetails. The SharePoint lists are all on a SharePoint site that my users have access to read.

    Attaching screenshot with explanatory callouts.

The first thing I would try is deselecting "Allow users to fill out this form if data is unavailable" in the form options.

Quick Update: Inspired by the fact that it is possible to create a web based form with a data connection, I created a simple form. The form worked with a data connection and with multiple views and with rules. The form broke when I added a repeating table. I didn't even add any new data connections or any data connections in the repeating table. Since then, I haven't been able to create any forms (even new ones) with data connections-- even after a cold boot of the computer. This looks like a bug to me. I'm using Office 365 with SharePoint 2013 and InfoPath 2013.

Done. Also deselecting "Store Queries" option for under "Offline" eliminated the "parameterized queries" error in the Design Checker. I'm still getting the notice that it has to be completed using the Form Filler even after deleting the repeating table. I guess this wasn't the problem after all...

My next guess is it has to do with your form having code and having fields promoted as SharePoint Web Part connection properties. Can you try removing those?

Sorry. No dice. I selected and removed all of the indicated items, but I'm still getting an error that says the form must be filled out with the Filler.

What if you remove the code from a copy of the form? This is also under the Form Options > Programming category.

The "Remove Code" option is disabled. I don't think that there is code to remove.

I'm going to try recreating the form on Monday. My simple test form is able to work, so maybe there is something glitchy in the code of this form. Thank you for your help; I'll keep you posted.
