InfoPath 2007 / Sharepoint 2010 Issue with repeating section

    Good afternoon.

I have been having trouble with a repeating section and within that section there is data that writes to a Sharepoint list, and another that is a repeating table which has fields bound to a separte group which is not written to the Sharepoint list.

It appears the repeating section can only be bound to one group, and the section that is not bound in that group has problems.

After beating my head on the desk several times, I was wondering if anyone could confirm if multiple records can be written to sharepoint when an InfoPath form is submitted, or is it only possible to submit one as you frequently see in the Standard View? I recall you can submit several records to an Access database.

    Thank you, WHEELS

Hi - when you submit an InfoPath form to a form library, you'll only see one row in the library per XML. You can promote repeating data as merged. If your form is a list form (bound to a SharePoint list) you can set it up to manage multiple items, but you won't be able to add any repeating tables outside of the one used for the main submit.

Thank you Hilary. I don't have a great deal of prowess with Sharepoint (more than InfoPath). How can I can promote repeating data as merged, and where do I go to set the multiple items setting?

Okay - so the setting I am talking about for multiple items is only used if the form is a SharePoint List form. If you are using IP 2007, I don't think you can design ShP List forms with that, so your form is probably not a list form.

When you publish your form, you can choose what columns to promote. When you pick the form field, if it is repeating, you should see a little drop down that lets you select first or merge. If it is a number, you can select other options like sum as well.

Thank you Hilary. I really appreciate you taking the time to respond. It looks like you are the InfoPath guru on this site. I will give this some thought tonight, and back at it in the AM. WHEELS

Re: InfoPath 2007 / Sharepoint 2010 Issue with repeating section

Hi Hilary. I created a separte group not bound to the Sharepoint datasource list items. I created a repeating section, tried to create a table full of data from the new group, and then a repeating table from the remaining fields in the goup that were not used in the 1st table. The group is set as Repeating, but I get the following errors / warnings:

    • In the 1st table section I get Control stores duplicate data.
    • In the Repeating table, I get Control cannot store data correctly.

Why does InfoPath have an issue splitting up data in the same group in this configuration, and I also tried creating separate groups and linking each section separates within the Repeating section, but there is also an issue as the Repeating section needs to be vbound to a repeating group.

Can you attach your form to a reply under the Options tab? I'm having a hard time understanding. :)

I create a new sample project instead of stripping out proprietary info. This has no datasource. I atteched the form. WHEELS

Re: InfoPath 2007 / Sharepoint 2010 Issue with repeating section

Your data source doesn't support what you are trying to do - you have a repeating table, bound to InfoPathTest, inside a repeating section, bound to InfoPathTest. The only way you could do this would be if in your data source you had a repeating group nested inside another repeating group. If you are trying to use data from multiple data sources - like, you have a repeating group in your main data source, and are trying to put a repeating table from a secondary data source inside a control bound to that main data source repeating group, you would run into the same issue.

You can, in your main data source, nest repeating groups like this - but if you want to populate them with data from secondary data sources (guessing here that may be what you want to do) you'll have to write code or use qRules to accomplish it.

Sorry I don't have any happier news for your Friday!
