Re-publishing InfoPath to SharePoint Form Library without affecting existing items

    Hi,

As the title reads I have modified my InfoPath form (added/removed fields) and now I need to republish it to the Form Library, but I dont want the existing items to look distort. So basically the existing items should remain the same without the new fields.

Does anyone know how you can do this without affecting the existing items.

I am using SharePoint 2007 and InfoPath 2007.

     Thanks a lot!

    So is this impossible?

There are ways to make this work, but they take some forethought.

As long as you are not deleting fields from the template, the old forms will still function.

Do you have a field in the old form that is a true/false for submitting the form?
If yes, then there are ways to make what you work, this would be the best option.
If no, then your options become limited and those options could cause your form to become convoluted and harder to maintain.

Sorry I don't understand what you mean if I have a field that is a true/false for submitting the form?

My form has a button control (not the standard built-in toolbar button). There are some rules defined which simply Runs some actions when the button is clicked.

    • Set a fields value
    • Submit using a data connection
    • Close the form

    Is this what you meant?

What field is being set by the button?

A true/false field can be used to check if the form was submitted.  True - submitted, False - not submitted.

The field being set by the button is just a hidden field to track the views and mandatory fields etc.

so if I have a field which checks if button was submitted or not, how does that help in this context i.e. republishing new form with new fields without affecting the existing items in the list.
