automatically moving to next line, a pseudo carriage return

    Hello,

My InfoPath users would like to be enter text in a text box and as they begin to get to the limit of the text box's allowable size, automatically set the focus to the text box immediately below and resume typing.  This is like a carriage return, except I would be sending them to a different control.

InfoPath Action rules can detect when the user is nearing the end of the top text box's limits with the string-length method.  (For example, "the expression" and "string-length(.) > 80" are set.  However, I don't see an available option in the "Run these actions" to move the focus to the next text box.

Before I tell my users it is not possible, does anyone know how it can be managed?

    Thanks,

Why not alter the text box properties>display>Multi-Line, users can then enter there own carriage return i.e. press return/enter to make the text 'look pretty'.

The only other way would be to create a button which would input a carriage return field. The field would contain a specific default value, which equals the equivalent of a carriage return.

The reason I am not using a Multi-Line text box is because of printing issues; we can't move a signature field off the page for legal reasons.  And, if users have the multi-line capability they likely will push the signature off the page.

Also, the button would require the user to leave the top text box and move to the button.  This is a similar amount of work to moving to the second text box.

Too bad InfoPath doesn't allow the ability to set focus to another control as part of what it can do in the Actions rules.  That would be a nice feature.

    Thanks for the reply.
