Content-type template is not updating when republished with changes.

I successfully added a new content-type to a form library and reassigned the existing items in the library to the new content type and made the new content type the default template in the library.  All library items open correctly and even got the site columns I created to populate.  I updated the template then republished the content-type however the changes I made to the template are not reflected in the items when re-opened.  I republished the template the long way (File > Publish) a zillion times and no change.  I also deleted the content-type from SharePoint library and Site content types, renamed  the template, published again and hooked it all u again but the old template is still opening with the items in the library.

Is there a step I missed to connect a content type to the template?  I've allowed management of content types

Is there a cache somewhere I need to clear?

This is similar to my issue: http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/sharepoint/en-US/0adb312d-1450-4e2c-8e8a-647020dbb311/incorrect-infopath-content-type-update-in-form-library-after-modifying-infopath-form-and-publish-it?forum=sharepointcustomizationlegacy but like I mentioned, I tryed his solution too, and nothing changed for me.

    Hi Doreen,

This is strange. It should update for you so long as the existing forms are re-linked to the content type. Are you using filler? If so, I'm wondering if it might be a caching issue. If you are using the browser, please download one of he XMLs and check the form in notepad. Verify that the href attribute at the top of the XML correctly points to the published content-type. If not, it may be a relink issue. Easy to fix for either case.

    More soon,

    Patrick

Re: Content-type template is not updating when republished with changes.

I am not using a filler nor browser forms. I opened an xml file with XML Notepad and sure enough the href is pointing to the form template in the same library http://server/site/library/Form/template.xsn  where the form is submitted.

I changed the link to point to another library where the content-type is stored when it's published, and now it opens correctly.  I was under the impression that the template was also published directly to the library - but based on the behavior, it only is on initial publishing and it overrides the former template (that was not a content-type) .

I used the "Relink Documents" from the View menu to relink the other xml files, now all is well. :)  Thank you for the tip!

Hi Doreen, would you mind explaining that a bit more? ie. How did you "change the link to point to another library.."? Where is this "Relink Documents" and where is this "View menu" you were referring to? Thanks, Laura

The relink view is a built in view in InfoPath libraries. Not sure if it shows up in Modern views - you might have to change to classic. If your form library uses content types, I believe relinking will update forms to use the default content type, so use caution here.
