Editing forms with a repeating table from SharePoint list

    Hi,

Brand new to this forum so please be gentle!

I am pretty new(ish) to InfoPath and I have come across an issue that I'm not sure about how to solve. All other issues I have had have been solved with a simple google search, however, not this one.

    Scenario:

I have a list of questions in SharePoint that can be added to or have items removed by a team that are no experienced in InfoPath so must be maintained in SharePoint.

This list feeds a repeating table (because there are a varying amount of questions) on an InfoPath form where the questions are answered (simple yes/no checkbox). The form then feeds a form library where analysis is completed.

The form works perfectly fine when I am submitting a new entry to the form library. However, when I want to view/edit a previously completed form, all answers are set back to the default value (false/No).

So my question is: How can you populate a repeating table from a list but remember what answers have recorded when you go back to edit/view it?

Apologies for my inexperience but this has been frustrating me for a little while and I need some guidance!

Please let me know if this can be done in an easier way.

    Thanks

That's no Newbie question, as far as I can tell!

It isn't possible OOTB to populate a repeating section/list from a secondary list/library without code or the qDabra add in. I have the same situation atm which entails responding to an unknown number of questions and keeping the response somewhere for future reporting/analysis.

I'll upload what I've achieved when I have got it sorted if you like? It will evolve the understanding available at this post http://www.infopathdev.com/forums/t/26246.aspx

Re: Editing forms with a repeating table from SharePoint list

Apologies! I assumed it was a newbie question as I have only been working with InfoPath for a very short time!

The article, as I can see, is submitting multiple lines from a repeating table to a SharePoint list. I have done a similar thing to this by creating an xml data source and using this as a "holding" place for data then auto populating the field in a repeating table.

What I would like to do is record yes/no answers to questions in a repeating table that are populated by a list which I have done. However, when editing the form in the form library it doesn't keep the answers.

So in a "questions" list I'll have a list of questions that are to be maintained by an external department. So questions can be added to or taken away. I would put the questions directly into the InfoPath form, however, their knowledge of InfoPath is zero.

I also have a form library where all the results are to be stored. On the form it populates the questions from the "questions" list in a repeating table. When completing a questionnaire and submitting it to the form library, the user will use a tick box next to the questions in the repeating table to say whether they are true or false. This part works perfectly. The problem is when I select a form that has already been filled out. All the tick boxes have returned to their default value so the questionnaires cannot be reviewed.

Is there any way to solve this problem?

Is it possible to create a second repeating table on the form with the data in it "hard keyed" from the first repeating table?

If this needs moving to another forum then please let me know.
