    ContactSelector not working

    Hi,

I have tried all the steps illustrated in this blog. I am using web based browser forms and publishing on SharePoint 2007:

    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/infopath/archive/2007/02/28/using-the-contact-selector-control.aspx?PageIndex=1#comments

I have tried it in InfoPath 2007. I started from scratch and have nothing else but the contact selector as the only data source in my template.

When I try to preview the form with the ContactSelector in the View I get.

"InfoPath cannot open the selected form" error message. But when I remove it from the view and preview it again, I get no no error message.

Also I believe the ContactSelector control is meant to have a text box with a "To..." button to the left. But in my case theres just a small square with a red dot inside of it (looks like a place holder for an image)

I have also tried this in InfoPath Designer 2010 (but saved as 2007 template). Here I get no error message when I preview it but again the contol is just an image place holder. Then if I publish it to SharePoint server and opening a new form, I get this error:

Please can you tell me where I have gone wrong? Spent so much time on this, would be grateful for some help.

    Many thanks!

Want to attach your test form under the Options tab in a reply? I can try to take a quick look. :)

Thanks very much. I have attached it.

I have used InfoPath Designer 2010 but saved it in 2007 format.  I have even created the Context.xml secondary data source, but I dont think this is needed as Im publishing it on SharePoint and its in web enabled.

Please let me know if you need any other info.

Thanks for posting again - I had missed your post with the attached template. I saved your template and modified the Context XML to use one of our SharePoint servers. The form previewed on my machine w/out error. The contact selector worked as anticipated. Can you attach a screenshot under the options tab of what the control looks like for you? It appears correctly on the form you sent me (on my machine...)

So - you tried in 2007 and 2010 - on the same machine? I'm confess, I'm perplexed. I don't recall in IP 2010 if we had to add the control to be able to use it - I know in 2007 we did.

    Re: ContactSelector not working

yes I have tried it in both versions. Havent tried it on a different machine yet, as currently I'm only one who has got IP.

No in IP 2010 you dont have to add it as its already there, but when you right click the control and choose Properties; there suppose to be a SharePoint Server tab according to instructions in the above link. However, even this tab is missing for me.

I think if your form is an IP 2007 form, it will be missing. See the attached screenshot from my machine (IP 2013). I know in the end you want a 2007 form, but can you try creating a new IP 2010 form and putting a contact selector on that? You don't have both 2010 and 2007 installed on the same machine, do you?

Yes got 2010 and 2007 on same machine and I have tried creating a brand new form in 2010 with ContactSelector, but still experience the same issue.

Okay - that could be part of the issue. In general, I've had issues with multiple versions of Office installed on the same machine. What version are you running for the rest of Office?

    Re: ContactSelector not working

    I see.

The rest of office is 2010. I only chose to design it in IP 2007 because our SharePoint is 2007 and I thought it would not be compatible with IP 2010.

    Re: ContactSelector not working

right I just got someone in IT to test the template. He has only IP 2010 on his machine and he also had the same issue.

Personally, I'd remove InfoPath 2007 from my machine and run a repair on Office 2010 then try again with a new blank template.
