Working with attachments saved to library from InfoPath

I am using the SaveToSharePoint and DeleteFromSharePoint commands and I love them!

However, our situation is that the files we are saving to the library from InfoPath will be edited frequently and by many people, so naturally, to ensure no one overwrites each other's changes, we want to enforce the check out feature.

    1. With the check out feature enforced, all files saved to the library, default to being checked out.  Since the end user is saving them via Infopath, they do not see the library and can't see the document needs to be checked in.
    2. If check out is not enforced, then it is a good possibility that people will overwrite each other's changes

To get around the check out issue, I was hoping to make the file's URL in the form to be a link to the DispForm properties of that document.  However, the only time I have used the DispForm, it was linked to the ID of the document and the SaveToSharePoint command does not give us the ID of the document in the library.

So I tried to link DispForm to the Name of the document like this:  concat("http://serverName/IQR%20Files/Forms/DispForm.aspx?Name=", substring-after(@qRulesLink, "Files/"))  but have found that DispForm doesn't appear to work using Name as the identifier.

    1. Do you know of any way to link DispForm successfully by using any of the information we retrieve from the SaveToSharePoint command?
    2. If not, is it possible at all to retreive the ID of the document that is saved in the library?
    3. If the answer is no to both the above, do you have any suggestions as a work around for this?

    Thank you in advance!

Perhaps an easier approach is to have the form automatically show check-in/check-out status and automatically check-out the form if it is not already checked out.

We have an XTP that does this. http://www.qdabra.com/en/forms/QdCheckInOut.aspx

If you already purchased qRules, we can give you a discount on this. Please email support (at) qdabra (dot) com. Also, if you buy the XTP, we offer a 30-day money back guarantee if you decide you can't use it, but I think you'll be able to.

It's also a better user experience because your users don't have to navigate somewhere else to check-out or check-in.

    Good luck!

Thank you for the suggestion Patrick. We did purchase this check out product before and if my memory serves me correctly, it only works with Sharepoint server. We are using Foundation. Is my memory correct?

Hi Patrick,  Also after looking into this solution even more, it seems you are suggesting that we check in/out the form using the XTP..but that is not what I need.  I need to be able to work with a document saved into a library, that was uploaded via the form.  Checking in/out the form is not a problem.  It's managing the check out/in of the document saved into the library via the form.

Can anyone else please provide an answer to my questions above?
    Thank you!

    Hi Deeayrian,

    Sorry for my confusion.

So, let me clarify: you want to be able to attach a document to a form and have this saved to a library and replace it with a link in the form so that people can edit the document without having to open the form, and use the link in the form to refer to the document. Is that correct?

If so, the qRules command SaveAttachment is what you want and sorry for sending you down a rabbit hole. SaveAttachment will upload attachments to a separate document library and replace them with links.

Feel free to send me email too and we can do a short call.

    Thanks!
