Displaying a filtered Sharepoint list, how to hide blanks?

I'm trying to create an 'exception list' to quickly see who has not yet completed a given form. I was able to create a simple form that compares 2 Sharepoint lists and displays a list of the users from the master list who do not appear on the 'completed' list. The only way I know to do this is bind the list to a repeating table. It's working but the repeating table displays the filtered-out entries as blank fields. Is there a way to get rid of the empties and display a solid list? My second issue is that the way I have the repeating table formatted is apparently not allowed as a web form. Is there any other way to get this to work? The problem is because I've set the default value of the field inside the repeating table to show only the users that don't appear in the 'completed' list. I'll attach the template and a screenshot of the display problem.

Attached is a screenshot showing the display issue.

    Hi Chris,

Thanks for attaching your form, but I can't figure it out (I don't have access to your site so I can't preview). I don't see any filter on your repeating table either.

You can use an xpath filter to remove items that do not have a membership condition. However, as you say, this requires binding and filtering and that isn't supported in the browser.

Another option would be to add default value "rows" to your main data source and add a default value to copy the values from the secondary data source based on whether they are exceptions. This is slightly complicated as it involves setting a column in your secondary data source and having a rule on that column that triggers the comparison and copy to the main data source. You'll need to use set field actions and a counter field to keep track of where you are in the main data source.

We could show you how to do this in 15-20 minutes. Sorry, it's a bit involved for an individual forum reply.

     Hi Chris,

To add on to what Patrick said, the simple answer is that you can use conditional formatting on a repeating table to hide rows that you don't want to be visible. That is supported in browser forms and will eliminate empty spaces. Unfortunately, that's not entirely simple in this case because the formula you're using is so complicated. I'm not entirely sure how it works (and I have a feeling it's not entirely correct), but is it giving you the expected results?

Thanks guys. Upon further investigation I realized I did not in fact have the filter formula right. I have tried again and set up the filtering on the repeating section instead of trying to do it within the calculated value field. The trick was adding a filter within the Conditions of the rule, this is probably grade-school stuff for you guys but I'm still learning a lot of this stuff! I have it working more or less like I hoped, and it is working as a browser form as well. I'll attach the screen shot showing it successfully parsing a list and displaying which items exist (green) vs. those that are missing (red).
