Infopath and SharePoint Person Group Control

I created a list in SharePoint and added three columns using person or group control. I set Show Field to display the following information.

    Name
    Userid (active server)
    Office

SharePoint duly returned the desired information though I entered only the userid in all three fields. Then I edited the list with InfoPath and inexplicably all three columns now show name only. However, when the item is closed and viewing via AllItems.aspx the true values show.

Q1. Why did InfoPath change the display values in the list?
Q2. How can I make the true values show using InfoPath?

    Thanks for the help.

     Hi,

A1: If you look at the expanded view of the Person or Group Field in InfoPath, you would see that it displays only three properties for a Person i.e. Display Name, AccountId and AccountType. This is the reason that InfoPath displays the Name because it doesn't have the property to show Office.

A2: You can show the Name by putting the Display Name on the InfoPath Form. You can show UserId by putting the AccountId field on the InfoPath form. You cannot get Office of the user without using Web service which I'm not sure. Remember the first two fields are added as repeating tables but they will show single row only.

    Hope it helps.

I appreciate your explanation. I did notice the properties...and will give up. By the way do you know if it is possible to take the data from these fields and pass it to another column/control? I have tried but without success but that only for I may be doing incorrectly. Mind you I am new to SP 2010.

    Thanks

Yes, you can copy the values to another column using InfoPath or SharePoint designer workflow.

From InfoPath, click on Data > Submit Options. Select Perform custom action using rules > click Ok. You will see that Form Submit option is enabled. You can create a Action rule to Set a fields value.

With SPD workflow, you have action to Set Field in Current Item. Hope it helps.
