We had a restricted level access form. Upgraded to Outlook 2010 and Infopath 2010.
Now when trying to open an email with a form we get an error: Cannot open Restricted form with code - due to security settings.
So we FullTrust our form and sign it and republish. Try to open the same email - STILL NOPE - because it won't retrieve the new template because it assesses the current cached copy for security. But I can save the attachment and open it from the desktop just fine - so why is Outlook complaining?? If it doesn't support the 'integrated' feature because of security/fulltrust, just open it like a normal file or any other attachment, with a warning. It only acts as an inconvenience than an actual security protection...
Clearing the cache / forcing an update by opening a blank copy of the template on the user's machine external to Outlook, and then trying again makes it work.
But why why why did this happen to Infopath 2010? - the publishing and auto-update methodology is borked - e.g. user being prompted to save and close instead of getting the updated template automatically - what was wrong with the way it worked in 2003? Did someone hack into the NSA using an auto-updating Infopath template?
It also seems impossible to make optional for the template whether the user can see previews of it in the email body as well, just so annoying! The template owner should be in full control of how the form appears and functions for the user.
If I'm wrong about any of this stuff, feel free to point out solutions / workarounds - I'm just incredibly frustrated with it.
