    Look for some advice/help

    Hello:

I have been task to redesign a daily attendence report.  Looking to use Sharepoint 2010 and InfoPath 2010.   Each department supervisor must submit a daily attendance sheet for all personel in the department.   Personel could range from 5 to 30 people in one department.   Options are (Present, Leave, (giving dates off), Tdy,  Sick, etc).  Again this is done every day.   Staff is also counted depeind on their status (Civ, active duty, officer, nco, contractor, etc).   This information is use only for reporting.   I had created a list for all staff, and a some view to filter by department.   However,  I'm not sure how to approch this on a daily bases.

     Any suggestion, is surely welcomed.

    Thanks,

For me several things come to mind. Work backwards. What and how do you want to report on things? Is the report going to displayed via a SP based dashboard, excel spreadsheet or another? Since you're redesigning things? How is all this done at the moment?

This for me often dictates how I might approach forms and items.

As for doing it on a daily basis. Telling the supervisor to do it daily - would solve the issue. You could have a view to group by day. Somebody I assume you have to check that they had been done anyway. So if you have 10 departments, you have 10 forms per day.

Currently this is done in an Excel sheet.  The excel templete is hosed in Sharepoint and a new spread sheet is created daily.   However during our migration, we have leard that this spread sheet is about 4mg of data, which is mutiplying every day.  Who ever did the design of spread sheet,  calulated formulas even on on blank rows throught the sheet.

I was thinking along the same line a form for each department,  but populating the data in the same list in the background.
