Rich text box in a repeating section reverts to read only after the first entry

Hi, I have a form that includes a repeating section using a rich text box within a repeating table in the main data source.  All the controls behave as I expect when new sections are inserted except for the rich text box.  It allows me to enter data for the very first table entry, but anything inserted reverts to read only.  This is happening in both browser forms and in Filler.  Is there a setting I'm missing?

There are no rules associated with this control, and the only rule on the section is one that hides the section if a previous value outside the table is false.

    Any help is appreciated.

    Hi Tom,

Sorry for the delay. Most of the team is at the Microsoft MVP Summit this week. We appreciate your patience.

In general, I don't know why this would happen unless the actual data type was a text field (as opposed to rich text). That would be one thing to check - i.e. did you bind a rich text control to a plain text field by mistake by adding the rich text data type first with a control and then changing it to plain text afterword.

At any rate, we'll try to repro this tonight. I will ask Don Lambatin to respond.

    Thanks Patrick.

I just checked my data source, and the rich text box was added after I'd done some development.  I added it to the canvas much like other elements, in that I first added the data type in the data source, then drag the data element to the canvas, which in turn drops a rich text box onto the form.  It hasn't been changed to any other type of data type.  The odd thing is it's editable for the first entry in the table, but not any subsequent inserted rows.

I think I know this one.

Right click the repeating control and open the properties dialog. In the center of the Data tab, you'll see "Sections that can be inserted" and a Modify button. Click the Modify button.

Click Edit Default values & verify the new field is selected in the defaults - check both "To all occurrences of this section" AND "Only when the user inserts this section".

Awesome Hilary!  I knew it had to be something simple, but not quite obvious unless stumbled upon before.  Can't tell you how many rabbit holes I went down to try to solve this.

My guess is the comments rich text box wasn't included since I added it after the fact.

    Thanks so much again.
