    Make red asterix disappear

I want the red asterix that appears next to a box to only appear when the box cannot be blank (which it does), but not as is the case also when there is a validation message that I have created saying "Please fill in with your name". Can you control when this red asterix appears?

    1. Right click on text filed and Go to text box properties
    2. Click on data validation button and click on Add button.
    3. Enter Filed 1 is blank
    4. Then Enter Screen tip "Please fill in with your name"

Thanks, but I had already done that, I was hoping to make the red asterix that appears in the text box when you add the above data validation to not be present.

I think what you are looking for is a Screentip, not data validation.

First, remove the custom data validation that you inserted.
Then, double-click on the textbox control, go to the Advanced tab and type your message into the Screentip field there. This will show up whenever the user hovers over the field, but will not show an annoying red asterick or block form submission.

    Hope this helps!

Thanks. A problem I am finding is that the screen tip appears over a control even when it is read only or disabled (sections are made read only or disabled once the form has been filled in by the relevant person and passed on to the next person to fill in their bits while being able to see the sections already filled in), this can be confusing when the screen tip is 'please fill in'. Is there a way to stop the screen tip appearing when the text box or other control has been made read only or disabled.

    Hi Turnipboy,

In read only or disabled mode also we can see the screen tip of that field. We don't have any option called whenever field is editable at that time only see the screen tip.
For avoid this screen tip, you can choose data validation message on that field. In this it shows whenever your validation is correct it shows the message.
