Submit button sending duplicated forms by email - intermittent problem

I am new to Infopath and have managed to create a form which will, when the user presses the Submit button on the ribbon, send the form to a pre-determined email address.  The form seems to have been working successfully for most users (they have, in total, sent around 50 forms already), but there have been two occasions now where the recipient receives two or three copies of the same form, all showing exactly the same time stamp.  On these occasions, the recipient is able to open one of the forms, but the duplicates will not open (though the duplicates can still successfully be displayed in the reading pane in Outlook).  The sender only ever sees one (successfully submitted) copy of the form in their Sent Items.

I thought at first they were somehow managing to submit the form multiple times, but I cannot replicate this as the form closes automatically after clicking Submit> Send.  I even tried double-clicking on the Submit button but this has no detrimental effect.

    Can anyone help?

    Are using InfoPath with SharePoint?

How do users access the initial form?

I'm not a fan of closing forms on a submit button. I'd rather have a rule which switches to a Thank You View and the submission of data happens in the background.  On the Thank You View, you could have a button, which closes the form.

I'd hide the ribbon Save, Submit etc. and have a submit button on the form. That way you could ad some basic logging i.e when the button is pressed set a hidden field with user name, date and time etc.

Does the email go through a mail server? If so does the mail server see 2 emails or one? Does the email form being sent originate from the same person each time? Does the receiver have any rules set up for the sender or form subject line etc.

Sounds like a fishy Outlook issue but you never know.

Re: Submit button sending duplicated forms by email - intermittent problem

The form is stored in a document library in Sharepoint.  The users launch the form from there, fill it in and click the Submit button.

The forms are being sent by a number of individuals and two different users have experienced the duplicate form problem so far.

The emails are going internally to another address within our organisation and our server only sees a single email going through.

The recipient doesn't have any rules set up in Outlook.

I like your suggestion of hiding the ribbon and creating my own submit button with rules and a thank you view but, as mentioned, am new to Infopath (and trying to teach myself as I go along) so this is a bit beyond me at the moment.
