Hi,
Thanks for replying.
I created two Infopath forms based off of the Sharepoint list. By clicking the Infopath icon on the top of the toolbar in Sharepoint 2010, it built a form based on that list/table, and gave it a "send and receive" connection that is unable to be modified/edited (Standard procedure so far right?). Now, I took that form and turned it into one that an associate can enter basic information to the table/list stored on Sharepoint and another form for a manager to look up the recent entry and add comments/corrections. In order for the manager to find the correct entry I used the technique where a unique identifier (Entry ID - which is a random serial number we enter) is selected from a Drop Down - which will then auto fill every other text box on this manager's form. So the manager would open it, find the newly entered Entry ID number - and then all the info from the table/Sharepoint list populates (name, address, etc. etc.) and this works perfectly. Now I want the manager to enter their comments, and be able to put this updated data back onto that same row in the Sharepoint list/table that is brought up from the form. My co worker said "It sounds like Infopath brings up this data, and is treating it as a new entry - maybe there is a way to convince it that you are working to update an existing entry".
Some other information: When I created these two forms... I made the associate's one (where you enter new info and submit it to the table/list). Then I just clicked Copy and paste on that Infopath File - renamed it appropriately, and then in Design mode, rebuilt it to include more fields to edit/submit back to the site (or try to).
The form the person opens to make these new edits - is a different form, yes. I also have another version of this where it's just one Infopath file where these forms exist as different views. That behaves the same way - when you submit using that manager's part, it thinks it's a new entry and I get a duplicate row with extra comments, etc. entered from the manager.
Is there a way that I can get Infopath to treat this data it pulls up based on the "send" connection which works fine - to submit it in that same row and overwrite it? I publish it to the site and that doesn't do anything, and the submit button just enters that info again into a new row with the extra comments, etc.
Oh one more thing, I am testing this using the F5 or Preview button, as well as uploading the Infopath file (s) to the site and clicking on the file icon - that brings up the Infopath viewer program where my results are the same.
I have tested this method using Submit, and Publish - not the Update feature.
Thtat's about all I can think of, let me know whatever information you would like me to check on and I will be happy to relay it back - thanks!
