Cannot open form in design mode

    Hi,
I am trying to open a form in deisgn mode and am getting two errors. The first says 'You are designing a form with only protected views. A blank view will be created. Do you want to continue?' pressing cancel does nothing. pressing ok goes onto the next error 'InfoPath cannot open the following form: gives location. The XML schema file specified in the form defintion (.xsf) file for data object "gives a list on SharePoint that the form links to" cannot be used.'
    Can anyone help??
    Thanks
    Clare

    Hi Clare,

You can check your secondary data connection and those details once again. If you don#%92t want to share point secondary connection then you need to remove that reference from manifest.xsf file.

For removing that reference from manifest.xsf file, open this file in notepad and search key word like ‘dataobject#%92. Select share point secondary connection complete data object block and delete form manifest.

    Hi Shiva,
Thanks for your reply. Can you tell me how to access the manifest.xsf file. I have read some notes which say to extract files when in design mode.. but I cannot enter design mode so do not have this option.
    Thanks

I have now managed to open the manifest.xsf file and have updated it. All working ok now.
    Thanks very much.

Is your form already saved as source files? If not, rename the .xsn with a .cab extension. Then, open the .cab file and copy out all the form files. This will give you access to manifest.xsf.

    Hi Hilary,

Maybe I'm missing something here - how do I rename the .xsn file to a .cab?  I've tried simply renaming the file in windows explorer but all that does is amend the file name to .cab.xsn...

I'm getting an error that there is a problem with my .xsf file when trying to open a form in design mode (not sure what happened as it worked fine last week!) but now I obviously can't get into the form to extract the files.  Sure I'm just missing something simple here.

    Thanks for you help

Never mind - google to the rescue!

    Hi,

To convert a .xsn file to .cab, you just need to rename the xsn with cab. For this follow the below steps.

    1. Go to Control panel.

    2. Open Folder Options.

    3. Switch to View tab.

    4. Uncheck ‘Hide extensions for known file types'.

    5. Click ok.

    6. Now rename the xsn to cab.

Design the manifest.xsn file in InfoPath and select File > Save As, and save it out! The files get repacked into one xsn.

    Hi,

After changing .xsn to .cab extract all files into one separate folder. Then normally do the changes in manifest.xsf by opening it in design mode and republish it.

    Hope this helps.

This keeps happening to my form. It is connected to a web service that isn't changing yet the infopath file keeps getting corrupted.

Not sure if I'm doing something wrong here but when I change the file to .cab extension and try to open it using MS CAB extractor, I have no idea where the files are going - I'm not given an option of where to extract to, rather a black DOS screen pops up and then disappears without seeming to do anything!?

Can you just right click the file and select Extract All? Try another machine? Or just post your xsn here and I'll extract your source files for you...
