The following line of code throws an error

I have added the following reference:
microsoft.office.interop.excel
using statements are as follows:
using microsoft.office.interop.excel;
using system.reflection;
Error msg:
Unable to release the Object System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an .....
works fine on client, but browser form throws the error. I am trying to save excel to a doc library in sharepoint.
