Fields from main and secondary data connections in one repeating table

    Hi guys,

I'm looking for a solution to the following, without using code.

I created a form with a repeating table. The first field of this repeating table needs to be populated by a sharepoint list. This fiels is called PartNumber.

Then, the user needs to answer about 50 questions per PartNumber. All questions per PartNumber are on the same row. The questions however, are not part of the secondary datasource, but of the main.

This causes an error, because the repeating table group is not the same as the secondary data source repeating group. The PartNumber field is just one field from a secondary datasource and cannot populate this repeating table from the main.

Is there a workaround for this? I have a repeating table in a different view that is populated by the sharepoint list. Maybe I can populate the repeating table using this view, but I don't know how...

    Hi there,

First of all, your Questions should be in a separate list with an PartsNum column that relates it back to the Parts list.

When your form opens, it queries PartsNum and if they select it, there's a rule that sets the Query field in the Questions secondary data connection and then queries the Questions list.

To add the values to your main data source, you need to either use default values and Copy Using Set technique, or insert the rows using qRules Insert.

The former approach is out-of-box. I'm attaching a standalone sample that describes both.

    Hi Patrick,

Thanks for your answer and the sample. I'm studying the sample (I'm not a sharepoint or infopath specialist) and it seems viable for my situation. Just having a hard time understanding exactly what happens, but figuring it out eventually is for me a big part of the reward.
