Emailing to a user from infopath using a SP Contact list

    Hello,

I am creating a new hire InfoPath form for processing new hires in our hr dept.  For the ReportsTo field I have a sharepoint lookup that reads our employee directory contact list to find the hiring manager.

However when we create a rule to email the ReportsTo field, the email address is not being associated with the record from the contact list, so the email only contains the users full name and not their email address therefore leaving the system unable to send a message.

How can I get around this so that someone filling out the form can choose people by their full name but still be able to use that info to email that user?

Here's another related thread on this from last week: http://www.infopathdev.com/forums/p/26464/92097.aspx#92097

I recommend querying the mail address of the user and promoting that property and having the workflow use it when it sends the notification.

That's easy and doesn't require a lookup during the workflow step. You just specify the promoted field which already contains the email.
