Hopefully I can get a quick answer on this.

If I have a SharePoint Designer workflow that changes a value in the current item, for this purpose the current form that the workflow is running against, does that modification mark the xml in the form library as changed?

What I'm trying to determine is if I have a workflow that pauses on a specific form for a period of time, then emails a reminder to a user, then changes a status on a data source, either main or secondary, could this potentially trigger another workflow in the library set to execute for changed items only?

You could just use a separate custom column in the library to trigger that separate workflow.

I'll ask Jim if he has other ideas.

Yeah, the separate workflow is just tied to the same library/list with a condition that checks that column.

 Modifying a column from within your workflow should trigger workflows that start when the item is changed.
