I have a form template oublished to a form library and i often need to make changes to the form and republish- i need all existing forms in the library to use the new template, but theyre not updating for some reason? some changes i make to the form update in existing forms, but most changes i make dont. If i republish and create a new form all the changes are there.

 I have had this problem before and i changed the versioning settings in form options and it worked, but for some reason it will not work on the form im currently trying to make work.

Any ideas?

It depends on how big of a change there was. I just replied to another person about versioning strategies:

• Upgrade in place: this is the default
• Simple data source additions of 1 field should work fine
• Con: Big changes to your data source may not all insert into the old forms
• Side-by-side: publish separate versions as separate content types
• You need to think about this before you upgrade since the form library needs to be converted to a content type
• Con: Old forms open in old template - may not be desirable
• Batch migrate forms from old to new
• Use an XSLT transform to map them
• Con: XSLT transform can take some time to create
• Custom upgrade
• Add code to upgrade when they open
• Con: code required and needs to have separate conditions for separate older versions

Bottom line: the easiest is to just make simple additions when you make your changes - those should always upgrade old forms if your Versioning settings are configured to default.
