Incrementing the ID field in a form library.

I have very large form library in SharePoint 2010 for tracking Engineering Change Requests. Currently each request is assigned a unique tracking number taken out from our ERP software.

We would like to simply switch to using the ID number assigned to the form by SharePoint as our tracking number in the ERP software. Currently the ERP software's highest tracking number is 17445 and the highest ID number in the SharePoint library is 1738.

What are my options to get the next SharePoint ID number in the form library to be 17446?

I know if I copy files into the library and delete them back out this does increment the ID number and SharePoint will not re-use that number again. THOUGHTS?

I've used something based on the following in the past to start my ref numbers as REF100

    Understood & Thank You,

However, This issue is kind-of  outside SharePoint and InfoPath. We want to leverage the unique "ID" assigned by SharePoint to every request (Submitted From). Why create a unique tracking number?  That functionality is built into SharePoint. The ID field in SharePoint that gets assigned to a submitted form, is the perfect tracking number. It gets assigned when a user submits their request and it can never be re-used. Rather than getting our tracking numbers FROM the ERP software, we will enter the SharePoint ID number INTO the ERP software. This way the SharePoint activity drives the ERP activity.

To avoid user confusion, when we cut over to this new approach, we want the ID field in the SharePoint Library to pickup with the next number the ERP software would have assigned.

Is there a way to get the ID # on a library to skip 17000 records?
