InfoPath Dev

Hi,

 Sorry if this has been asked many times before (I'm sure it has) but are there some simple instructions on how to configure a data connection to update an item in a list?

 I've basically got to increment a number in a list on an action within a form and I've just realised I've never really done this before in an InfoPath form.

 I'd prefer to have a no-code solution if possible, to avoid the grief of having to go through the loop of publishing an administrator approved form. Do you know if this is possible at all?

 All I'm basically looking to do is increment a number in a list each time a form is submitted. Maybe InfoPath isn't exactly the best solution for this?

Do you only need to update a single item? You can do this with CAML and a submit data connection to the Lists web service. This blog pretty much covers the steps: http://sharepointknowledgebase.blogspot.com/2011/10/updating-sharepoint-list-by-using.html

However, you want to update an existing item, right? So you'll need:

1. The ID of the item you want to update
2. Slightly modified CAML
3. A way to set the correct CAML field in your 2DS to the value you need so that you can submit as an update

Do you already know the item ID of the item you wish to update?
