Creating Complex SharePoint Forms w/ Infopath

     Hello,

I'm new to Infopath.  I'm looking to create a complex SharePoint 2010 form(s)

I have an Excel Matrix of 50 rows, in this format (5 row sample):

    sample

    1) I want an initial form where the user selects their Platform and User Type form 2 drop-down Menus.
    2) They then are taken to a new drop-down Menu, where they select their problem, based on their previous selections.  Not all Problems will exist for every Platform+User Type combination.
    3) They are then directed to either a Text screen with Instructions, or an Email Form to fill out that is directed to a mailbox - again, based on their Problem selection.

Is this possible using Infopath?  Or would I need to use custom coding to accomplish this?

    Thanks...

Yes, this is possible using InfoPath. The method you are describing is called cascading dropdowns, can be achieved without code and there are tutorials online to guide you thru the steps. Most tutorials will focus on 2 dropdowns, but in your scenario it will be a cascade of 4 instead. A quick Google search on cascading dropdowns will provide you some tutorials. Good luck!

Great news; thanks for the reply.  I'll give that a shot as see how it goes.

It seems fairly straight forward to add the cascading dropdowns, but I don't see how would I handle part 2 of the last step: based on their selections, either 1) provide them with some text (for self-service), or 2) provide them with a form to provide details that are sent via email.

Your form can have various sections, and these sections can be shown/hidden (via conditional formatting) according to the selections the users have made in the previous questions.

Re: Creating Complex SharePoint Forms w/ Infopath

I might be missing something easy, but when I created a basic form with 3 drop-down lists and published it, when trying to create the first entry, (by selecting 'New' in SharePoint), I get taken to an InfoPath form instead of a form within SharePoint.

I did select "Web Browser Form" in the Compatibility Options.  Do I need to do something specific to publish the InfoPath form as an actual SharePoint form?

When Publishing to SharePoint, I get the message int he Publishing Wizard: "This form template is browser-compatible, but it can not be browser-enabled on the selected site."

Update: I was mistaken in the first post, I am using SharePoint 2007.  Does that make a difference?

    Hi,

The enterprise edition of SharePoint has a feature which needs to be activated if you want to open the form in the browser itself. PFB links for ref -

    Hope this helps!

does the setting to turn on browser enabled forms apply to MOSS 2007 Enterprise only, or is that setting also in MOSS 2010 (Enterprise only?)?

Its present for both MOSS 2007 and MOSS 2010 but only with Enterprise version.
