    DBXL Client question

    Hi all,

I just downloaded and installed the Client version of DBXL in order to test if the product suits my needs.

I encounter some problems using it, and I wonder if I really understand how the product works/is made for.

    What I have
    ----------------
    - I have a SharePoint 2010 form library
    - To this library is attached one (complex) form template
    - In this form template there exists +/- 150 different fields, and some of them are in repeating tables.
    - I installed SQL Server 2008 on my local machine (Full Text Search is also installed).
    - DBXL Client is installed on my machine

    What I'd like to achieve
    ------------------------------
    - I'd like some users (admin profile) to be able to do Excel reporting on the data stored in the forms, including the data from the repeating tables.

What I understood from DBXL client
    ---------------------------------------------
    - The tool, installed on a client machine, can connect to a SharePoint library and push the data from the forms stored in that library in a SQL Server database.
    - Mapping between the form and the SQL Server tables must be configured.
    - Once that's done, simply connect Excel with the SQL Server database to build the reports the user want.

    Questions I have
    ----------------------
In my scenario, is it necessary to install the DBXL tool also on the server side ? From what I understood from the video here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qSBySdG8VLY) and datasheet (http://www.qdabra.com/en/products/docs/library/DBXL%20Client%20Datasheet.pdf) it doesn't seem to be the case.

Nevertheless, I can't use the product as it should. When I go to the "DBXL Standalone Dashboard", how can I upload a new form ? For the moment I only see the Sample Expense Report form.

In the documentation I read, the DBXL Aministration Tool (DAT) is often mentionned, but when I try to launch it (http://localhost:8000/QdabraWebService/Forms/ID/-1/template.xsn), it doesn't work (error is displayed). Is it because I did not install the server side of the tool ?

Thanks to help me on these topic !
    It's quite urgent :-)

    Regards,
    Benoît

    Hi,

    Thanks for trying our products.

DBXL client will download the XML forms stored in your SharePoint form library and map them to SQL according to the Database mapping that has been set up in the DBXL Admin Tool (DAT). You don't need to install the server version of DBXL for this scenario.

Before you are able to use the Standalone Dashboard, the configuration must be created in the DAT. Here's a document that should help: http://www.infopathdev.com/files/folders/standalone/entry74112.aspx

We have DBXL training modules available for free here: http://www.infopathdev.com/files/folders/dbxl/default.aspx These modules also cover creating the doctype configuration and adding the Database Mapping.

What error are you getting when launching DAT?

    Hi Ernesto,

    Thanks for your reply.

I used to try to launch DAT from Google Chrome. It doesn't work at all (error 404). Then I tried to launch it with internet explorer. Same error. Tried again with Internet Explorer and the DAT opened, but I got this error (see picture in attachment).

It seems I can't edit anything. Do you have an idea on the root cause ?

    Thanks already

Thanks for the information. I would recommend:

    1. Make sure that the site has been added to Internet Explorer's Local Intranet.

    2. Does the computer have multiple versions of Office/InfoPath? If so, that might be the issue.

    3. Perform an Office repair.

Let me know if any of the ideas above help.

    Hi Ernesto,

Below the answers to your questions : 1) The http://localhost site has been added to the Intranet Local Intranet. Issue is still there.

    2) I have a mix of Office 2013 and 2010 installed on my PC. Infopath I use is InfoPath 2013. Could that be the issue ?

    3) Did the repair of Office. Issue is still there.

    Any other idea ?
    Thanks already

The problem is likely the mix of Office 2013 and 2010.

Do you have a secondary machine where you can try opening the DAT and rule out a possible server issue? If the form opens from another machine then we're sure it's a config issue.

    Hi Ernesto,

I asked a another client computer with Only Office 2010 and a fresh install of SQL Server 2008.

I'll keep you informed of the results.

    KR,

    Benoît
