Issue Trifecta: Disappearing Fields, Cannot Save, Duplicate Fields - Looking for way out and way to avoid

    Hi all,

This issue occurred last Friday and has just grown into my own personal nightmare.  We have people using the form, which is currently not available, and I need to get something up and running asap.  I'm trying to figure out the best "fix" as well as how to avoid the first issue in the future.  I'm on IP 2010 and MOSS 2007.  The form has been up and running for a few months and in use about 2.5.  Note the form is very large due to multiple teams using it and tracking their work.

Issue 1 - Disappearing Fields: The first issue is the sudden disappearance of fields from sharepoint.  Most of them were person/group fields - all of those disappeared in fact - along with some text fields.  I have no idea what caused the problem.  The only thing correlated to the disappearance I know of is me checking out/checking in a form from Sharepoint Designer.  I can't see how doing that would cause about 75 fields to disappear.  Anyone know what would cause those fields/columns to just vanish?

Issue 2 - Re-published the form to get those fields back into doc library.  In doing that, I magically got the  "Cannot save the form to the specified location.  Check file name... incorrect, etc. etc. etc."  So, now people couldn't use the form.  I've had that occur before, so I grabbed a previous version that didn't have a problem to fix it.  And, suddenly my publishes started to fail...

Issue 3 - I thought the fails were due to the server being wacky that day, which could be the case initially... until I realized that somehow my promoted fields were no longer correlated to their sharepoint counterparts.  So, all of my attempts at publishing just were sending more and more duplicates to the site.  I've now read about this issue on the forum and other sites, but those resolutions don't help me at this point.

We don't really have any Infopath gurus at our company and our IT department that supports sharepoint doesn't work with it much.  So, I'm reaching out to all possible people I know and this forum for help determining how to proceed.

As it sits, I now have a MOSS with a HUGE number of fields so it times out doing pretty much anything and a form that we can't open and save updates on.  It's just a mess.

It would take 5-7 days to restore my site back to pre-issue #1.  Therefore, I'm trying to determine if there is anyway to fix or if perhaps I should create a new library and transfer the current forms there (not sure how to do that one).

Please, please, please help.  Would it work to re-create the whole thing and move the forms over? Or is there a way to delete those fields I can't delete from the list settings?

     Thank you so much!

This is horrid when it happens.  I use SP2010 and IP2010

We'll assume that the missing fields etc. are just hidden in a view on your SP library. - It happens.  Also I think you should check your SP site and permissions.

I've seen people columns disappear/stop function when they are changed from a people group coloum which allows a single entry to then allow them to accept multiple entries.

It may be best to 'start again'. so that you know everything is clean. Otherwise create an admin view on a form. So that you can see values in fields. Are they what you/the form expects?
