InfoPath Web-Part and how to display data from other sites within the site collection?

I am using InfoPath 2010 and SharePoint 2010.

I would like to use an InfoPath form to display some data from a SharePoint list.

The complication is... I would like to display the data on an aspx page at the root of the site collection, and the data is in a sub site.  When I use the OOB InfoPath web-part it only allows me to select a list/library at in the current site - i.e. it does not show sub sites, and does not allow .xsn files not associated with a document library.

At the moment I have resorted to using a Content Query Web-Part and editing the itemstyle.xsl - but I would much prefer to utilize InfoPath's features, which I am much more familiar with.

    Thank you for your time.

If I'm reading it right, this sounds like it should be do-able....

In Infopath go to Data->Data Connections->Add->Receive Data

Enter the path to the subsite.

Select the List you want to pull data from, then the columns needed.

After that you should be able to display the data.  You may have to work with some 'rules' depending on how you want to filter/display the data.

Publish to an Infopath library in the site where you need it.  You will then probably want to use the Infopath Form Web Part (found in the Forms category) on the page where you want to display the data.  The inopath library will need to be in the same site as where you want to diplay the data.

    Hope this helps.

    Hello there,

I am having almost the same issue, however I am having trouble following your suggestion.

I need to publish my exiting InfoPath form in another site via the InfoPath form webpart, so that a new list item can be submitted from another site in the same site collection.

I have created the data connection in the form as you suggested. How do I publish the form to another form library in the site where I need it? The only way I can think of to do this is to create a template of the list and create a new empty list - that gives me the form but it is connected to the empty list not the one in the other site.

Or are you suggesting that I have to recreate the form, changing the binding of all the fields to the 'new data connection' rather than the 'Main Data Connection'?

I know this original post was a while ago but if anyone has any suggestions, your help would really be appreciated.

     Many thanks!

It sounds like what you want to do is a bit more than just pull and display data in the form. It sounds like you want to submit data to another site collection.  Are you just looking at making the same form available in multiple locations?  Or are you wanting the form in site A to submit the form to site B (possibly both, making a copy of the form)?

I haven't tried it on different site collections, but I have had set it up with multiple libraries in the same site location, I'm guessing doing it across site collections should work as well though.  Here is what I did to give the ability to submit the form to a 2nd library.

    1. Create the form as you normally would to the first form library.
    2. Publish the form to a second form library (to create all of the same linked columns etc.
    3. Go into your data connections add a new 'Submit data' connection to the 2nd library you created.
    4. You will need to setup the rules and/or a button on the form to handle when and how you want to submit to each of the forms, using the submit data rule to select which connection you want to submit to.
    5. Don't forget to republish to both libraries after you get the updated submit options added (or if you make any other changes).

Hope that helps some.  I would recommend avoiding doing this if you can, as it isn't fun to administer or update.
