I have found several posts about auto populating fields based on other fields.  But none address populating a "person or Group" field.

I need to auto populate a responsible individual for action based on the category selected on the form.  But when i try to set up the rule it won't allow me to set the person or group field to an e-mail address.

I actually have the responsible individuals in the linked table (added via the people picker) that the drop-down for categories is pulling from but I have no idea how to pull both items from that table at the same time either.

 Hopefully I have explained my conundrum fully.

 I think you have to set the account id field in the people picker to a valid account Id - I don't think that you can populate it with an email address.

Put the fields associated with the people picker on the form and then you can experiment with what you need to set the fields to in order to have the people picker populate correctly. I'm attaching a sample so you can see what I mean...

Thank you for the reply.  I will attempt to muddle through,  using the information given.  I can not open the sample you provided my sys admin has that ability blocked.

You can't open it in design mode after saving locally? Usually you can at least right click the locally saved form and select design to see it in design mode... from there if you want to preview, sometimes setting the form to full trust temporarily will allow you to preview.

that did it! thanks!  but account ID doesn't give me a number.  gives me a domain\user.name

Something i see i neglected to say before is that error i get when trying to set a value to the people picker is that it needs to be an integer

 What field in the people picker are you trying to set? Can you attach your form under the Options tab so I can see what you are doing?

Sorry for the delay in my response,  things have been a bit hecktic.  I could attach the form,  but the I can't even get the rule i need added since i get the error when setting the rule. I have tried both the DisplayName and AccountId but when setting the rule up i get an error that tells me "Enter a positive integer"
