qRuleslink opens attachments as Read Only

I am using the SubmitToSharePoint command to submit a form to a form library and repeating table data to a list.  The form has an attachment field and I am using the add attachment WS and the qruleslink and qrulesfilename functions to strip the attachment, add it to the savings list and put the attchment link in the form.  Everything is working fine except when I click on the qruleslink or the qrulesfilename in the form, the attachment opens as read-only and cannot be saved back to the list.  The Save As link is pointing back to the item id but does not save it back to the item.

     https://server/teams/lean/tracker/Lists/Savings/Attachments/297

If I open the item in the list, click the attachment link in the list item, the Excel file opens, I can edit it and then save it back to the list.

I do no have the link or filename in a section to ensure the section is not preventing me from editing. Is there something that I have missed to allow me to open the attachment from the link, edit and save it back to the list?  I double checked the walkthrough and it looks like I did everything correctly.

I am using Excel 2010 and Office 365, I have full admin access to SP.

When I click on save I get the error: The file https://server/teams/lean/tracker/Lists/Savings/Attachments/297 is read-only.  To save a copy, click OK, then give the workbook a new name in the save as dialog box.

    Here is my mapping file:

Re: qRuleslink opens attachments as Read Only

I have completed some extensive testing on this error and have found that if you are using IE9 or IE8 when clicking the link to the attachment on the form, the attachment can be opened in Read-Only mode. If you are using IE8 or IE9, you do not get the button in the yellow bar at the top of the Excel windows to edit the worksheet. Depending on the IE version you will get an error that says that the data connections are disabled or the spreadsheet is read only.

If you install IE10, the attachment can be opened from the form in Excel, and a button at the top of the Excel spreadsheet allows you to click on Edit Worksheet.  The Excel spreadsheet can be opened edited and saved back to the list when using IE10.

Let me know if you need any additional info on this bug.

I don't think this is a qRules bug - from your description above, it sounds like an IE setting / issue. That is - the qRules link is simply the URL to the item - there is nothing special about it.

Thanks Hilary... I have found a MS KB article that relates to this issue.  The problem is we do not have access to the server to change the WebDav settings.  I am going to open a Service Request with microsoft to see if we can get something done to fix it.

Re: qRuleslink opens attachments as Read Only

Here is the fix for this issue:

Open Regedit and go to :

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Common\Internet

Create a key and name it - OpenDocumentsReadWriteWhileBrowsing

    Set the Value to 1

Links will open as Read Write in IE8 and IE9.
