I want to auto-fill a repeating table from SQL, on form open. 

1. Is this possible using technique in Qdabra tutorial titled "Copy Sql value to infopath repeating section fields using QueryDB"?

2. What I'm proposing is using a repeating table instead of a repeating section - is that possible?

 3. If it is possible, is it better practice to place the repeating table inside a static section control, or to place the repeating table directly on the canvas? (The reason I ask is because I have multiple sections,  or tables on the form, that need to auto-fill based on other conditions in the SQL table, like their category value and sort order)

Yes, it is possible. For the purposes of the tutorial or the form logic, a repeating section is no different than a repeating table. The only difference between those two is in the canvas.

It's always best practice to place your repeating tables/sections within a section control.
