    Repeating Cascading List from a Hierarchical Data

    Hi guys,

    I hope you're all well - I am new to this forum and relatively new to InfoPath so I understand that a lot of my questions may be very basic.

    However, I have been really interested in InfoPath for a number of reasons - my favourite so far is because it seems to be quite east to interface between an SQL database and a form in the form of Repeating Cascading List from a Hierarchical Data Source.

    I read and followed the instructions from a link which ishttp://www.infopathdev.com/howto/tutorials/default.aspx?i=9f6fda3a14c14ac4924cf0a382928432

    which I thought was great except the model didn't work if I had a filter on there.

    Has anyone else had this problem or is it just me? I have tried over and over again but it just won't work.

    If I turn the filter off, it shows all the model info - so that data it is trying to display is definately coming through, no problem.

    If I create one filter based on the year value = current()/my:year then it displays nothing. If I then include the AND make value = current()/my:make then it still displays nothing

    The Make one works perfectly - what is it that I am doing wrong?

    I am hoping to have a few more than 3 Hierarchical drop downs for an order form based upon a load of products - category, brand, type, flavour, size, promotion, wholesaler, product code - so I hope that at this early development stage I can get over the first hurdle.

    Thank you for your help

    I don't know but, I just looked through and found a "simular" article. Is it the same problem or not? Thanks

    DrValium... here's an update that should get you rolling:

    The solution required two things:

    1) current() represented the NODE d:Registering, and not the ATTRIBUTE @Arbetsuppgift, therefore the correct filter is expressed as "../@Element = current()/@Element"

    2) Once you update the filter, the Value and Display Name fields of the drop-down list get reset to ".", which if not updated back to @Value and @id respectively, leaves the list looking blank.

    With both of these adjustments in place, the repeating cascading lists work as expected.

    Are you sure that you have correctly capitalised?

    Hi,

    What do you mean by capitalised? I have done the details of the filtering in lower case for all of them.

    current()/my:year
    current()/my:make

    is this what you mean?

    Thanks

    Yeah, that's what I meant. When you made the boxes that the filter refers to, did you make them with a capital letter at the start?

    Basically, your xpath has to match your datasources exactly (capitalisation included).

    Forgive me if I'm wrong but it's been a while since I did this and I'm tired >.<

    Post back if it still doesn't work.

    Good luck

    I can't believe it - you were absolutely right! Thank you

    Year instead of year and Make instead of make

    I can't believe the tutorial example uses the name of a field called "Year", isn't that reserved for use as a command and not to be used as a field or query name?

    I've been through the tuorial myself a couple of times.
    Put it down to experience.

    I don't know about field names being reserved for commands.
