I have a requirment that requries me to update a workflow task form by adding a new task form field in sharepoint designer. However, i get a message that says, "if this workflow has any running instances, changing this custom task may break those workflows" this list has many forms with many running workflows. I am scared it might cause some workflows to not work properly. I have tested this in my dev enviroment and the update was fine. All i had to do it delete the approval task form and upon publishing it created a new form and the workflow works but this was only on 2 forms. I need to perform these steps in a production environent. I did noticed it when it reloaded a new form hte rules i had applied on a button is gone but if thats all it does is removes prior customization of the form. I am good. I jjust dont want any workflows to get errors and stop running.
Has anybody updated task form fields for an approval process workflow successfully without affecting the running wf?
